It's not an ideal timeline, but also not impossible to overcome especially given that plenty of people are getting pushed out the door early these days. You really don't have to worry about accounting for all 18 months since (assuming you're ready for R1 apps) you've only gotta explain what you've been doing from now through September/October.
Just be as productive as possible during this gap--take quant or business courses, do volunteer work, learn a new language, find an internship, etc.--then make sure your application is clear about why you didn't start school right after leaving active duty.

Good. I didn't get pushed out early I was only extending if I got the 365 TDY that I applied for and personnel jerked me around up until the final month.
That's the gameplan. I'm starting classes this summer and focusing heavily on quant and business courses along with volunteering. I'm working on my Spanish as well.
I just wanted to make sure I didn't completely screw myself. I don't have the background to get in or even attempt a top-10 applications I'm just hoping I can squeak into a top-30 program.

Just a thought, but I could probably get everything together in time to apply for the final round at Rice. Is that a completely terrible idea and I'm better waiting the year or is it worth pursuing?
) and I got in UCLA, UC Irvine ($$) and Texas A&M College Station ($$ with full housing for my family). And I will have my interview at Yale tomorrow. I originally thought about doing UNC online MBA program but decided to apply to top 30 programs instead. Like Cobra said (and from talking to many b-school alum), the best thing about doing an MBA is the networking you will have and can depend on for the rest of your life.
