Hi everyone,
I hope you can help me out by giving me some advice on this specific situation.
I am a foreign student with a Bachelor's Degree in Law. I was a lawyer in my home country, but now I want to change careers and pursue a marketing and business education/career in the US. The long run goal is to get a job as a marketing consultant here.
I wonder if I should go to college again, now in the US, get a bachelor degree in Marketing and only then think about an MBA. Or if I should just go straight to MBA school. The first option would allow me to pursue a good GPA (I believe my GPA from Law School would be around 3.00), so I would know which Universities I could really apply to, also get internship experience in the field, as well as connections with professors and build up my new career as an american would. The MBA option is better to save money and time, of course, but I wonder if I wouldn't be in a big disadvantage by being both a foreign and having a degree in law, which has
nothing to do with business.
In foreign countries education is really different from the US, for instance, we don't have GPA and classes have a direct correlation to the major. There are no general classes and absolutely NO classes in business or marketing.
I hope there is someone willing to help me out or at least build a conversation around this topic. I would deeply appreciate it and maybe others can benefit from it as well.
Thanks in advance,
Renata.
