Masters of Supply Chain Management at Ross school of business

Hi GMAT clubbers,

I'm a student in Masters of Supply Chain Management at Ross school of business. I got here in January 2015 and have already learnt a lot in these 3 months. I'm here to share my admission experience, school life and general MBA info with all the prospective students.

Anyone who is familiar with U-M Ross knows that the school is one of the best places in the nation to study supply chain management. The program is truly unique, with all the hallmarks of a Ross education, combined with “only at Ross” experiences.Unlike other schools who offer courses or tracks in supply chain, ours is a full-fledged graduate degree program and one of the only such programs offered at a top ten business school. The Ross MSCM Program is a calendar-year program that starts in January and graduates in December. lt also includes an innovative Business Boot Camp, which is integrated into the winter semester and delivers business fundamentals from the same award-winning faculty who teach the MBAs.

Each MSCM student is also a Tauber Institute for Global Operations student. Tauber institute is a highly respected name in operations management. In fact the internship/summer project for all MSCM students is sponsored by the Tauber Institute. Yes! these are paid internships :-D

The oldest candidate admitted in this year's batch is in his late 30's. There have been students in the past who were over 40 too. It's amazing to see people from different backgrounds, functions, demography and culture join this program.

Thanks for starting this thread. Currently considering this program as well as MSU's MSC blended format program. Besides the time commitment (1 vs. 2 years) and the online component to the MSU program, are you able to share your reason(s) as to why you chose Ross, what makes this a better program. Guys if you are looking for a place to get answers regarding your queries about the Ross MSCM program, then you have reached the right thread!
I will be happy to take any questions you have specific to the program and admissions.
The main purpose of starting this thread is because when we were looking for information last year there were not many places to get that. As the popularity of the program is increasing it is even more important to address questions from prospective students through GMATCLUB, which is my favorite forum. Hence, we the students of the program initiated this new thread.

A brief introduction about myself:
I'm a Mechanical Engineer from Army Institute of Technology (Pune University) with more than 4 years of experience in SCM of two different Automobile companies. I have worked in the role of buyer and handled the supplies for over 50 suppliers for Mahindra & Mahindra as well as Piaggio Vehicles. I did not have any formal learning in this field and since SCM is giving companies strategic advantage, I felt the need of gaining expertise in this field by learning from the best! Trust me the faculty is top notch and one who is genuinely interested in the subject will certainly appreciate their deep knowledge to help understand the current trends and future needs.

I'm going to wrap up here as I have lots of assignments to do (be prepared to be back to school with tons of homework/assignments/case-studies/presentations due every week!!

I'm sorry to have not answered your question sooner. Honestly speaking I don't know much about the MSC blended format program at MSU. But to answer your question I chose Ross because it's an action based fast track program in SCM and Operations. This program gives a competitive advantage and prepares future leaders who are working at coveted positions in top organizations. There's a 3 months Tauber summer internships that exposes us to the real world problems. There are numerous industry engagements with factory tours, guest lectures and interaction with corporate advisory council members who are at the top positions at top notch organizations. Also, the classroom learning, case studies, assignments and quizzes help us gain the hard skills and the presentations and group assignments polish our soft skills. These qualities are highly sought after in business leaders.

Thanks for following up on this thread. Its really great to hear from current students like you!

I'll be taking up GMAT this year and be applying for Ross MSCM beginning Jan-2017. I have around 4+ years experience in supply chain areas related to S&OP, logistics and service operations in 2 different high tech consumer electronic startups. I did my MBA in marketing prior to joining the startup, but supply chain became my career path. I sense a need for a masters in supply chain to enhance my future career prospects.

What are the chances I have getting into Ross MSCM if I have >3.2 GPA (engg & MBA both) & GMAT > 690 (wish that)?

Also please shed some light on how & which industry experience is valued. (I've seen a lot of admitted candidate profiles with experience in automotive MNCs and i'm from a electronics startup scenario, hence the question)

I am a Marine engineer with 5 Years + WE and 740 GMAT score. Was interested in Full Time MBA with Logistics/Supply Chain Management as concentration from Michigan Ross. Applied R1 but dinged without interview. Michigan Ross MSCM also fits in my career objective. Recently got a mail as under:
