My option C.

Because the companies have been investing heavily investing without thought and hence fewer returns and hence companies shutting.

This time profits rose, that means that probably company people got the knack of it.

A: Too good to be true. Looks out of scope.

B: It the option B says that there a few still not convinced they this could be one of the answers.

D and E : Out of scope.

What do you say.

It has never been so good for online businesses as revenues from both customers and advertisers have been steadily increasing. Skeptics are yet to be convinced that this will be a long-term trend and point to the not so recent dotcom bust, which saw many online businesses shutting shop. Most analysts though have been positive and believe that the dotcom bust was a result of companies rushing to the net without getting the fundamentals for success of their businesses right and not the online business model itself.

Which of the following can be inferred from the statements given above?

A Customers and advertisers believe that the Internet is the place where business is going to shift entirely to in the near future.

B There are many who are still not convinced about the longevity of the Internet business model.

C Many analysts believe that this time around companies have got their fundamentals right for their businesses to succeed.

D It is easier to set up web based business models than traditional brick and mortar companies.

E A greater percentage of business in many industries is now being transacted on the net than in the traditional method.

Can we have some discussions before OA pl.

Therefore the analysts believe that this trend is not like dotcom bust i.e companies have got their fundamentals right.

Added OA: C..I marked B. However, not really convinced with C.

Anyways, OE is as follows:

Explanation:
a) Not enough information to infer that customers and advertisers believe the Internet is the place where business is going to shift "entirely" to in the near future. They might believe it is a growing channel.
b) Statements just mention skeptics, from this we cannot infer that there are "many" who are not convinced.
c) Correct. Analysts believe that the current increase in revenues for online businesses is a long term trend and refute the arguments of skeptics by saying that the earlier bust was because of "companies rushing to the net without getting the fundamentals for success of their businesses right and not the online business model itself". Which implies that it is not so this time around.
d) No information to support this inference.
e) No information to support this inference, companies might be generating revenues. through the Internet but we cannot infer that a majority of the revenue is being generated through the Internet.

I also chose B over C, but now I realize B is a kind of fact that is directly mentioned in the argument whereas the question is about inference and C is an inference why analysts are positive.

Hope this helps!

Kudos if you agree :)

A Customers and advertisers believe that the Internet is the place where business is going to shift entirely to in the near future.: cannot be inferred from the passage because this passage does not discuss about Customers and advertisers belief

B There are many who are still not convinced about the longevity of the Internet business model.:Cant be inferred beacuse in passage it is mentioned most are positive ,so many cant be negative.

C Many analysts believe that this time around companies have got their fundamentals right for their businesses to succeed.

D It is easier to set up web based business models than traditional brick and mortar companies.:Out of passage.

E A greater percentage of business in many industries is now being transacted on the net than in the traditional method.:Out of passage.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

Hi amansoni5

Let me try to help
As per argument

"Skeptics are yet to be convinced that this will be a long-term trend" we dont know how many skeptics are there

And Option B tells "There are many who are still not convinced about the longevity of the Internet business model." Here many means between 1 to 100%

What if there are only two skeptics then these two skeptics is way less than 1%, so this cant be correct where as if we look at C it says "Many analysts believe that this time around companies have got their fundamentals right for their businesses to succeed" which justifies from the argument because we have to take everything written is correct in argument

(B) is not correct. Nowhere is it mentioned that 'many people' are skeptics. What if there are 2 skeptics only? Had option (B) said 'some' instead of 'many' then we could make a case, but as given we cannot.
(C) is correct.

Most analysts though have been positive and believe that the dotcom bust was a result of companies rushing to the net without getting the fundamentals for success of their businesses right...

Most analysts have been positive and believe that previous failure was because of X. Then since they are positive this time, it means they believe that X has been taken care of.

Definitely C here.
B says "many" when the passage just mentions skeptics are yet to be convinced. You are not aware of how many they are it could be very few as well. Although its a very small inference with assumption that can be made.

C hits on the target.
The last line there is a clear assumption made that the dotcom bubble burts because of so and so reason after denying the fact that current businesses would NOT succeed.
This clearly means that those ppl definitely think that businesses right now got all the ingredients unlike before to succeed.
