"degree program" : I assume it is referring to the MBA degree , and not the undergrad degree. Am I right ?

Yes, this is referring to the MBA degree. Basically, you want to have a good backup plan if plan A doesn't work out. While you should talk about skills you will learn in B school, it is also good to connect that with your past experience and/or interests.
