Each block from bin A is 4 inches tall, while each block from bin B is 5 inches tall. If 12 blocks are stacked on each other, including a blocks from bin A and B blocks from bin B, into a single column, is a>b?

Hi,
there are 12 blocks - a from A and b from B...
Is a>b?
(1) b>5
which means minimum value of b is 6, and largest value of a = 12-6=6...
so \(a\leq{b}\)..
Ans for "is a>b?" is NO
Suff
(2) The height of the column is less than 56 inches
If the # of both a and b is equal, 6 each, the height would be (4+5)*6 = 54inches..
Ht <56 inches...
so a > b, height could be anything from 4*12= 48 to 53..
if a=b, height will be 54..
if a<b, height will be 55..
so different answers possible

I use the direct method which is the use the number for a and b.
