'Which' in option B is not required as it fails to maintain parallelism.

In the presence of 'which', the sentence must read- Broadway musical which was written by a large group of composers and which was...

Option D is not wordy, maintains the parallelism and retains meaning.

I think the first musical broadway and the inspiration is are refer to Meet Pauline, hence the correct answer is D

Very good question
Basically everything after comma is a modifier.
The two modifiers have to be parallel and should refer back to Meet Pauline.
D only makes sense rest options are of no good.

Please do not fail to take note of the non-underlined part. The noun 'Meet Pauline' is modified by two appositives namely the first musical and the inspiration (both nouns).

1. the first Broadway Musical
2. the inspiration

Second: Two noun phrases can be parallel. Moroever, even they were two clauses as you thought, that would also be fine - two clauses can also be parallel.
