Hey guys,
Thanks in advance for reading this and providing some feedback for my unusual (albeit not unique) situation. I just took the GMAT and scored a 730. Here was the breakdown of my score report:
Quant: 47
Verbal: 44
Total: 730
IR: 8
I'm feeling really blue about the Quant score because it puts me in the 65% percentile for quant. I finished the quant session with some of the most complicated problems I've ever seen, which made me think I was performing well, but I did not feel confident in my answers to those questions. Clearly my score report seems to concur with that lack of confidence. I have ambitions to apply for top MBA programs (M7 is my goal), and am considering retaking the GMAT based on the low Quant score. I've read so many different things that say "If you have above a 7XX don't retake", but I'm not sure those are geared towards M7 applicants. I'll provide a little bit of background on myself. I hope you guys can help me decide if I should retake based on my situation...
- I work in a quant focused M&A job (not bulge bracket IBD, but a reputable firm in the M&A world).
- I have passed the CPA exam
- I'm working on completing the CFA exam
- I have a high GPA (~3.9) with a business degree from a quality non-target school (think 20-30 undergraduate ranking)
- I scored a 5 on AP Calculus BC (I know we're reaching back here, but I thought I was good at quant at one point in time...)
- I can speak two languages
So, what do you think? Do I have enough quant in my background for M7 admissions to forgive me for my botching of the quant section or do I need to suck it up and try to retake this beautiful beast of an exam?
