The unclassified plants from Brazil could not survive when transplanted to an American desert because they are native to a rainforest with heavy precipitation.

A to an American desert because they are native to
B as an American desert because they are native in
C to an American desert because they are natives of
D as an American desert because they had been native to
E as an American desert because they had been natives of

why does native have to be singular here?

Hi stne ,

Plants are one kind of species and hence we are saying the whole group is native to some place.

On a similar basis, I can say My friends are native to Australia.

Many people native to one place.

Does that make sense?

The correct idiom is "native to"

Yes, as native is a collective noun , it should be singular. ( Am a little late here in acknowledging your response, but better late than never). Thank you.

Easy SC question :)

We have to know the idiom ''native to'' and not ''native of'' or ''native in''.

Also ''when transplanted to'' and not ''transplanted as''

Answer A.
