This question contains comparison error. Person should be compared to person and sentiments should be compared to sentiments. An illogical comparison between person and sentiments does not work.

E looks the best option. "Contrary to those of his colleagues" goes well with "Churchill's sentiments" but skeptical about his referring to"Winston Churchill's"
