A man 6 feet tall is standing near a pole. On the top of the pole is a light. What is the length of the shadow cast by the man? (Assume that the men is in a room with flat floor and the light on the pole is the only source of the light in that room).
(1) The pole is 18 feet high.
(2) The man is 12 feet from the pole

(2) The man is 12 feet from the pole

from Q stem we can draw a triangle similar to the one in attachment. however we need to know two more variables.
st1 gives the height of the post but this doesnt say anything about the length of shadow.
st2 gives the distance between the man and the post and this doesnt give the length of the shadow.
combining st1 & st2 we can find the length of the shadow as 4 (however not needed)

Based on the question stem, we know that the man is parallel to the light. So these triangles will be similar and hence proportional. We just need to know the height of the pole and distance from the pole.
ST1) Gives us the height
ST2) Gives us distance.
So C 1+2 together.
