Many of us who have rescued or acquired a dog (or 10) in the last few years are likely trying to strategize how to have a fantastic MBA experience, without having to sacrifice the company of our furry friends. To that end, I am starting this thread so that people who have brought their dog along to a new city for their MBA can comment on how easy/difficult it was for them to find housing, and how they managed to balance the responsibility of having a dog while taking the MBA.
With regards to the latter, I personally think I will have significantly more time for my dog when I start my MBA than I do currently. I adopted my dog about 2 years ago and since I have had my dog I have worked 70-80 hour weeks every single week. I can't imagine the MBA requiring me to commit more time than I already do at work, so the main challenge I see is my ability to find dog friendly housing. To that end, if you had your dog during your MBA program, please share the name of the school you attended, how you found your housing, and the name of the housing/apartment building, if you don't mind sharing.
Personally, if I get into Columbia University I will be going there. It will be expensive to find housing that is pet friendly, but thankfully if I were to move to NYC, I would be sharing a house/apartment with 2 of my best friends, who will share responsibility for my dog. If I don't get into Columbia however, my round 2 application strategy will favor MBA programs that make it easier to find pet friendly housing.
PS: I currently live in Georgetown Washington DC. If you plan to go to school in Georgetown and have a dog, good for you. Plenty of options within reasonable distance. For example: Eaves at Tunlaw Gardens.
