I work in the IT department of a state government PSU. I am very unsatisfied with my job because I find it very mundane. My job generally involves monitoring networks, maintaining email accounts, and similar tasks befitting an IT desktop technician. Even though my designation is that of an assistant manager, I am not involved in any work that could certify my role as that of a manager.
Prior to joining the government job, I worked in the IT industry and had felt my experience there to be far more enriching, maybe because I was provided with challenging roles. Now, it is the complete opposite, and my skills seem to have worsened.
My concern is will the quality of my work experience be a BIG obstacle for gaining entry into the top colleges?

Work experience is important, but it's only one of the factors in your MBA applications, it's not a deal breaker. Try to present your work experience in the most impressive way possible, and maybe try to promote a project at work that can demonstrate your initiative.

I agree with above. Do not let anything deter you from applying. Arrange your thoughts. But you need to be ready for answering about your move between 2 jobs. You did nit want to leave bad impressions by saying it was bad or unexpected responsibilities. I believable you may dig deep in your current job and highlighted to show how you progress.

Aside from above, why did you make the move? Did not you know your job responsibilities?
