I think the explanation is a little confusing.
No. of bears in a year = total valid alarms/valid alarms per bear
For every undetected bear, 10 false alarm
For every 4 bears, 3 valid alarm. Or For every undetected bear, 3 valid alarm
So 3 valid alarm per 13 alarms
Total alarms = 12*1=12(1 per month)
Total valid alarms = 12 * 3/13
Valid alarm per bear=3/4 given
No.of actual bears in year= (12*3/13) / 3/4 <4­
