The number of full-time professional organizers in Denver, Colorado, increased by more than thrice from 1996 to 2004.

(A) increased by more than thrice : "by thrice" is wrong ( Correct usage: He went there thrice)
(B) increased more than three times : This means the incident has repeated three times but the intended meaning is "the number" has incresed.
(C) more than tripled : Correct
(D) was more than tripled : Paasive
(E) had more than tripled : usage of "had" is inappropriate.

There is not much difference in usage of thrice,three times,or tripled
The main crux is how to convey intention of sentence in less words.

More than tripled is better than more than thrice because of words

Here more than tripled use less words to convey intended meaning

So C is correct

D and E are wrong as was and had are not required in sentence

But the same intention is expressed using few words in option C

So C is better choice than B

Don't you think that verb is missing here.

The number of full-time professional organizers in Denver, Colorado, increased by more than thrice from 1996 to 2004.
------>The main comparative subject is "the number of full-time professional organisers", so the correct comparison should be "3 times greater than".

(A) increased by more than thrice--->it's obviously wrong
(B) increased more than three times---->Incorrect form of comparison.
(C) more than tripled
(D) was more than tripled---->Incorrect meaning cause it uses passive form.
(E) had more than tripled--->Incorrect meaning cause it uses passive form.
---->The answer is C

As per my knowledge, "tripled" acts as an adjective

So no verb in this sentence

Tripled is a verb there. The more than before tripled just means that this was a >3x increase (without the more than, it would have been 3x).

I think i figured it out wrong
'tripled' acts as a verb only

And i need your help in one more thing. Correct answer is option C because that is the most concise way of writing the intended meaning. Is that correct ?
These questions have always been a little challenge for me
