[quote="Harshgmat"]The financial crisis of 2008 had seen the US government take stakes in companies to keep it afloat and sell off the stakes at a profit later.

A) The financial crisis of 2008 had seen the US government take stakes in companies to keep it afloat and sell off the stakes at a profit later.( Use of it is not correct, use of past perfect tense is also not correct)

B) The financial crisis of 2008 saw the US government take stakes in companies to keep it afloat and sell off the stake at a profit later.( use of it is not correct)

C) The financial crisis of 2008 had seen the US government take stakes in companies to keep them afloat and sell off the stake at a profit later.(use of past perfect is not correct)

D) The financial crisis of 2008 saw the US government take stakes in companies to keep them afloat and sell off the stake at a profit later.(singular stake is not correct)

E) The financial crisis of 2008 saw the US government take stakes in companies to keep them afloat and sell off the stakes at a profit later.(stakes is better)

Choice E is correct
Thanks

Dear all, I have a query.if stake is used in place of stakes at both places ,would it make the sentence incorrect?
i.e.
The financial crisis of 2008 saw the US Gov takes stake in companies to keep them afloat and sell off the stake at a profit later.
Would this construction be right?
Thanks
