Ann wants to make cookies, but she only has 2 eggs and the recipe calls for 3. If the recipe calls for 3 cups of flour, 1 cup of sugar, and 1/2 cup of butter, how many cups of butter will she need to use?

We can deduce that for 3 eggs she has to 1/2 cups of butter so for 1 egg it would be 1/6 butter and for 2 eggs it would be 1/3 option D...

Since 2/3rd of the raw material is being used in terms of eggs, a proportionate reduction in all raw materials is called for
Hence amount of butter to be used is also 2/3rd of what was in the recipe

2/3 x 1/2 = 1/3
