Actual cost of 2 books = 118 cents (59*2)
sale price of 2 books = 99 cents

therefore saving per book = 118-99/2 = 9.5cents * 10 = 95 cents = 5 pairs of 2 books or 10 books

There seems to be a typo either question should have If a person buys X pairs of these notebooks at the sale price, or there should be 10 in the options

In a certain store, notebooks that normally sell for 59 cents each are on sale for 2 for 99 cents. If a person buys of these notebooks at the sale price, what is the value of x if the total amount saved compared to buying at the normal price is 95 cents?

A. 9
B. 8
C. 7
D. 6
E. 5

I did not understand the last line of the question "If a person buys of these notebooks at the sale price, what is the value of x if the total amount saved compared to buying at the normal price is 95 cents"

59x-99/2x= 95 cents
118x-99x=190
19x = 190
x =10

I do not understand why OA is 5.

Dear Moderator,
There seems to be the variable x missing from the first line of the question, making the question unclear. IMO question should read " if a person buys "x" of these notebooks at the sale price...". Hope you will do the needful. Thank you.
