If John buys a stereo marked down 7 percent from its $650 original price while Sally buys the same stereo marked down only 5 percent, how much more does Sally pay for the stereo?

7% = 5% + 1% + 1%
10% of 650 = 65 ===> 1% of 650 = 6.5
5% of 650 = 65/2 = 32.5

7% of 650 = 32.5 + 6.5 + 6.5 = 45.5
John's Buying Price = 650 - 45.5 =604.5
Sally's Buying Price = 650 - 32.5 =617.5
Difference = 617.5 - 604.5 = $13

Answer Option C is Correct.

You don't need to do all the math (time consuming).
You know:
John buys at 7% discount and Sally at a 5% discount: so Sally will pay (7%-5%) = 2% more than John
1% of 650 = 6.5 ; 2% = 13 (so Sally will pay $13 more)
