Can someone explain it in a detailed manner.

Posted from my mobile device

From the stem-and-leaf plot, we have below number of automobiles sold by 22 sales associates.
12 15 17 18 18
22 23 23 24 25 25 25
32 34 34 34 38 39 39
50 52
61

First column in the stem-and-leaf plot is the stem and second column is the leaf. Stem forms the first digit of the number and leaf forms the second digit.
Adding all numbers above we get, 660 automobiles sold by 22 sales associates.
average = 660/22 = 30

Now it is asked that for how many additional automobiles sold by the same 22 associates the average will be 35. So let x be the additional automobiles,
\(\frac{660+x}{22}=35\)
\(x=110\)

Therefore, additional automobiles per sales associate = 110/22 = 5

The method followed by me is a lengthy one. Any shortcut method is appreciated.

I've seen almost every official question ever published, including many hard-to-find ones, along with many unpublished ones (on the real test), somewhere between 5000 and 10,000 real GMAT Quant questions, and I have never once seen a "stem-and-leaf plot" on the GMAT. I have a Masters in math, and I've never seen one outside of the GMAT either -- I didn't even know what a stem-and-leaf plot was. There's no chance it's important to know anything about them unless you're working in an industry where they're used for some reason.

I think in IR section there are questions on Stem and Leaf Plot.
Btw, they do ask these things in SAT\ACT exams. :)

Hi Bunuel, dear expert! is there other quickest way to find the the average of this bunch of numbers? Becuase it takes a lot of time to sum them all up and it's impossible finish it in 2 mins. Thank you!
