A - Is the usage of past perfect continuous necessary here. it could have been was published in 1719. Daniel Defoe almost was sixty years old is incorrect. It should be Daniel Defoe was almost sixty years old.
B - marooned off the coast of Chile should be prefixed with who was marooned off....the first part is complete independent clause.
"Robinson Crusoe, the great adventure novel of shipwreck and survival based on the true story of Alexander Selkirk"
"Robinson Crusoe was published when its author Daniel Defoe was almost sixty years old in 1719." is another independent clause. Two independent clause in a sentence should be separated by ; and not by comma.
C - who was marooned correctly refers to Alexander Selkirk. was published in 1719 correctly refers to novel Robinson Crusoe.
seems to be correct
D - Alexander Selkirk was marooned off the coast of Chile and not his novel.
E - his author - should be its author. Alexander Selkirk was marooned off the coast not his novel.

IMO C should be the answer.
