40 admits at the information Q&A today for those interested in numbers.
How are there already 40 admits when I was told that they were planning on making decisions by August 7? The last day to interview for fall was just yesterday. kudos to those who were admitted from the summer applicant pool, but this could be seen as unfair from the perspective of someone that is an applicant for fall as they are taking up seats for the fall admits when otherwise they would have needed to be a reapplicant. For those who asked for an expedited decision; you benefit from hearing a decision quicker by applying to multiple schools, which makes the other applicants have to wait in line and watch other people take up seats.
So the August 7th date is the latest date as far as I know, it is rolling admission, at least somewhat. In the summer admission period there were also a lot of people who got the call earlier. It makes sense to spread out some of the resources. Apparently, they had a very high applicant number in summer, which contributed to their decision to leave a few good candidates in the pool. I don't think it is unfair for them to try and take only the best applicants. On the student side, you can also not blame anyone for taking the chance.
Yes, there is harsh competition now, but I don't think it is "unfair".
