I have OG 2018 (Including Quant&Verb Review), is buying OG 2020 worth?

Hi Guys,

First post from long time lurker here.
I purchased the OG 2018 including both reviews back in 2018, however my plan to take the test deferred until Next year around March.

Do you guys think purchasing another OG (2020) is worth the additonal cost? i visited the thread regarding OG 2020 changes in this forum but it seems that we can't access the full questions.

Hi Verytas,

You would almost certainly be fine using the 2018 versions of the Official Guides. While the OG books are great sources for practice questions, they're not designed to teach you Tactics, patterns or the little 'secrets' behind the GMAT - for those, you'll need Course-oriented materials. To that end, you might want to work on the OGs a little later on in your studies.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) Are you currently studying for the GMAT? For how long have you studied and how many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

You can find all missing question on forums and the online material will really be same

They are few new questions.
You can use the question bank of GMATclub to filter out the new question in 2019 and 2020 versions.
After searching 2019 and 2020 questions, observe which ones have "2019" and "2020" tags only without previous dates tags

So, you need not buy new versions

All the questions are available here. And the OG2020 is not much different from previous OGs, although there are some new questions included.

However, I still like to have a physical copy of the latest OG. With a physical copy, you can refer to it easily when you cannot get online or are tired of looking at a screen. For these reasons, I recommend purchase. If your need is with something else, then you can forgo buying.

There isn’t a lot of a difference between the OG 18 and the OG20. But in each edition of the official guide, GMAC adds about 100 new questions. So according to me, it is worth having a look at the OG20. Try searching it on torrents you might be able to download it. Official guide questions are the closest you can find to the real GMAT. Considering you have time, try solving as many official questions as possible.

Many thanks for the response guys, i almost finished the Quant part of OG including the review, quite confident on that section now. Thinking of purchasing either Math revolution/Target test prep before moving on to Verbal.

Hi Verytas,

To properly plan out this next phase of your studies, you really need to be more specific about the work that you've done so far along with your timeline and goals. It's possible that some of what you're considering is 'redundant' or might otherwise make your studies more complicated than they need to be. If you can answer my prior questions, I'm sure that you'll receive plenty of advice about how to best get to your Score Goal.

Hi Verytas,

Since it sounds as if you have put in some significant study time already, then you really MUST take a FULL-LENGTH CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) sometime soon - perhaps this weekend). That initial diagnostic CAT is important - it helps to define your current strengths and weaknesses and gives you a basis for comparison as you continue to study. Most Test Takers are not happy with that first CAT result, but that's not a big deal - the extra months of available study time are there so that you can IMPROVE on this initial practice result. Once you have that Score, you should post back here and we can discuss the results and how best to proceed.

As an aside, the 760+ score is the 99th percentile - meaning that 99% of Test Takers never score that high (regardless of how long they study or the number of times that they take the GMAT). Thankfully, NO Business School requires a score that high - so it's important to realize that the score that you "want" and the score that you "need" are not the same thing.
