Although, i got this question correct, but i want to know the exact reason or on what basis to eliminate rest of the answer choices.

Official Explanation

The element of the sentence following the introductory descriptor or modifier must apply to the first noun after the comma. The researchers were not “primarily accomplished” through the use of electron microscopes, so (A) is out. Though (B)’s idea of competence is not unacceptable, (B) drops the idea of the primacy of the electron microscope in the work, which is wrong. (D) and (E) use locutions that are either meaningless or wordy. (C) keeps everything in order.

The correct answer is (C).
