Hi Everyone,
I gave my GMAT exam on March 8 and scored a 720 (Q47 and V42). I am writing this post because it took a village to get me this score and I need to thank each one of them. Even though I gave 3 attempts, it has been a very long journey and I have learned a lot about this exam during this time.
Here are the courses and books I recommend:
Quant course -
Target Test Prep - This is an excellent course. If you are trying to improve your Quant and need to achieve Q47 - Q51 then definitely give this course a try. I got Q48 twice (during my first two attempts) and Q47 in my third attempt. The success rate is huge. Once you are done with this course do solve the quant tests from
Gmatclub Tests. This combination is deadly and is guaranteed to give you success.
Verbal course - Egmat. Cliche but true. I have seen so many positive reviews about this course that I was worried they are not true before I finally decided to try it out myself. V42 would not have been possible without this course. I have seen people praise the SC course in particular. But I found both SC and CR helpful. But there are some additional things you need to do along with this course. You cant just learn all the concepts taught in this course and expect to get a high verbal score. You need to apply them as well. The application files in this course are really helpful. I learned each question in the application files like it is going to come in my exam and I need to explain it to someone. After you are done with this you need to come to this forum and start solving the questions, especially the official ones. Dont just solve them though. Learn everything there is to learn from them. Learn like you need to explain them to a class and should be ready to answer any question that the class asks you. Please trust me. This practice will change your game. Go through the explanations that the experts post. They are golden.
If you are into books then I dont really have any suggestion for quant except Gmatclub Math book. For verbal - Manhattan SC guide and Powerscore CR bible. These two books are mentioned in almost every debrief I read and for a reason. They are seriously good. But at the risk of being repetitive, dont just read them, learn and apply.
For strategy - If you are someone who has learned all the concepts but dont really have a plan to attack the Gmat exam then go through EmpowerGmat course. It will prepare you to go into the exam with a plan. Dont underestimate the importance of having a plan. The exam tests your ability to handle high pressure situations.
People you should follow in Gmatclub :
Bunuel - He is god when it comes to Quant. His solutions are excellent. Thankyou so so much.
generis - A very hard working person. Please go through the SC butler project conducted by him. He has given elaborate explanations to each and every question. Thankyou very much.
GMATNinja - No words for this guy. He is a genius. All praises will fall short. All my RC doubts were cleared by him. When I gave the exam this time, RC was a cakewalk because of him. Watch his youtube videos too and pay close attention to the way he solves the questions. Thankyou so much Sir. You changed my life.
Few other users I need to thank before I end this post.
dcummins. Go through his debrief and youtube videos. Follow the strategy he recommends. It might just hugely improve your score.
US09 and
Gandiva. Thankyou both. You people have been very kind to share your strategies and all of them were extremely helpful.
Some personal people to thank - I have a 9-hour work schedule and my office colleague used to finish off my work so that I could go home early and study. Faith in humanity restored. Thankyou to one of my friend who gave CAT this year. He scored really well and helped me build my base for quant.
Last but not the least. Thankyou to Gmatclub forum. Without it, this score would have been impossible. I am ready to give back to this forum and help anyone who needs it.
