7-24-25 and 8-15-17 are pythagorean triplets and since the numbers are multiplied by 10, they would still be triplets

so 250 and 170 are the length of the diagonals and the difference is 80

The diagonal length of a rectangular TV screen measuring 70 × 240 is how much greater than the diagonal length of a rectangular TV screen measuring 80 × 150?

Difference = sqrt(70^2 + 240^2) + sqrt(80^2 + 150^2)
= 250 - 170
= 80

Option D

The diagonal length of a rectangular TV screen measuring 70 × 240 is how much greater than the diagonal length of a rectangular TV screen measuring 80 × 150?

A. 30
B. 35
C. 60
D. 80
E. 90

Solution:

Using the 7-24-25 right triangle, we see that the diagonal of a rectangular TV screen measuring 70 × 240 has a length of 250. Similarly, using the 8-15-17 right triangle, the diagonal of a rectangular TV screen measuring 80 × 150 has a length of 170. Thus, the diagonal of the former TV is 250 - 170 = 80 longer than the diagonal of the latter TV.
