Hello SME,
I have doubt related to Median. Does the median divides a traingle in 2 similar triangle or 2 triangles having equal areas.
I understood about the area. But I am not sure is it general property ( applicable to all cases) that median divides traingle in two similar traingle.
Please advise.
Regards
A median of a triangle is
a line segment joining a vertex to the midpoint of the opposite side, thus bisecting that side.Formula of area of a triangle = \(\frac{1}{2}* base*height\)
Now the two triangles created have EQUAL base, and SAME height, so the area will be the same.
But what does similar triangles mean :
All the corresponding angles are equal in the two triangles. And when will the angles be similar :
When the median bisects the angle too at the
vertex from where it is formed. That is, the triangle is an isosceles triangle. Otherwise, in almost all other cases, the two triangles thus formed will not be similar.
