A monkey is climbing up a greased pole, ascends 2 m and slips 1 metre in alternate min. If the pole is 12 m high, how long will it take him to reach the top?

1 cycle consists of 2 mins, 1 min to climb up and 1 min to slide down.
1 cycle-->2 mins, height climbed = 2-1 =1 metre
2 mins==> 1 metre
22 mins ==> 11 metres
monkey is left with 1 metre to climb up
1min --> 2 metres
To cover 1 metre it will take 0.5 mins
so the answer is 22.5 mins to climb up
If at all the question had asked for how long will it take him to reach the top for the FIRST TIME
The answer would have been 21 mins..
1 cycle-->2 mins, height climbed = 2-1 =1 metre
2 mins==> 1 metre
22 mins ==> 11 metres

We can aggregate the process, every 2 min the monkey climbs 2 m then slips 1 m so overall, every 2 min the monkey climbs 1 meter.
We can use this process until the monkey climbs up to 10 m which will take 20 minutes.
Then the next minute after the monkey descends to 10 meters, the monkey will ascend 2 meters and hit 12m so it should take only 21 minutes.
