Ideal time to switch careers

Question

Hi folks,

I'd be applying to my target B schools in Round-1 this year. I know switching careers right before the application would come out as a question mark and hence I have planned to stay at my current company.

However, I need to transition out of my company at the earliest, owing to personal & financial reasons. What would be the ideal timeframe to exit that doesn't leave any taint on my application? I was planning to exit immediately after submitting the application to my target school. Should I mention this upfront in the interview calls (if at all)?

Thanks! I know this is far-fetched but it always helps to plan in advance.

Hey buddy,

I don't believe there is an age for MBA, so whatever you want to do,just go for it. It is not a good idea to ask random strangers to cosign your decision, which may or may not end up being the decision that gets you sucess.

I guess working for a company and application process for an MBA are two different simultaneous things. It is understood that work experience and job is very much related to MBA application but it is important that you are doing your job which matches you long term career goals along with job satisfaction.

If you are not satisfied with your job, you can consider switching as long as it is in line with your long term career goals.

Many people do MBA to change their career path. It’s not mandatory to have an experience of what career path you want to choose prior MBA. Also, at this moment transitioning from one industry to another does not add up anything in the application. Rather you need to clearly state to B-Schools regarding your plan, but you need to have a clear reason and show them that B-Schools will help you achieve this goal. You can switch your career path at any moment in your life!
