Hi everyone,
I was planning to apply this fall but my GMAT score decided otherwise. I took some time off to rest because I was really exhausted and I'm ready to go back to work now.
Since the beginning of covid-19, I have worked remotely (I have a condition that makes me vulnerable to covid-19) while my colleagues went to the office almost every day). Additionally, I've experienced some issues with my boss (mental harassment among other things) but decided to stay at my company so it won't be an issue for the MBA.
I'm planning to apply by January, I got my vaccine shot this summer so I'm back at the office.
Even with remote work, this year was horrible, but it's nothing compared to what I feel now at the office.
I have the possibility to go see a doctor and possibly be diagnosed with burn-out. If it's the case, I will still be part of the company but won't have to go back there. Will this constitute an issue for the MBA ? I can try to come back if I feel better in a few weeks or months. I can also resign from my work once I receive my MBA admission. I'm really concerned about the impact on the MBA process. I don't think that I'll have to reveal it in the application (after all, it's my personal health), but when the background check company will call my employer, the latter will say that I was sick from day X till day Y. Will this be an issue ? Should I come back to work before having my interview (arround february) ... ?

A: First of all, you need to take care of you. Sometimes we can get wrapped up in the processes and what looks good and what makes sense, but at the end of the day watching out out for your mental and physical health comes above everything else.
In short, I don't think this will be an issue on the surface but you do have to address it. You can do this in your optional essay and any other documentation you choose to provide. Then, you have to look forward. You have to set all this aside and focus on what you want to do while getting an MBA and after you graduate. That's a huge part of this process. The key is not to dwell on perceived issues or weaknesses, but instead stress the elements of your background and vision that showcase the best of who you are.
I do not believe you have to return to your job just for the sake of continuity or appearance. Are you able to possibly land another job, maybe one that would allow you to maintain your health and still advance your career or at least buy you time before you matricute?
Again, none of these are major issues but you do need to have a plan in place so you're not giving off the image that you're buying time before starting school.

I thought about landing in another job, but I chose to stay in this one to avoid jumping around and explaining why I've had changed my job just before applying, but of course, I can try to find another job to buy time before matriculation but applying in round 2 with results in april doesn't leave lot of time (roughly 3 months...) for a new job. My timing is the following from now till december I'll finish my application. If I go to see a doctor, he or she will probably propose a 2-3 month leave (I may even be better with a one month medical leave) it's rarely more than that and if I'm asked to come back to work (or try at least) after a few months, I'll do it. But it's also possible to stay on leave for 6 months or more.
I don't understand why should I address this leave (from now till november/december) in the optional essay, because I'll be considered on leave almost like when I'm on holidays, a full-time employee. How will the school or background check company know about it and even if it's the case, I've had other periods of sickness that I don't plan to mention (such as almost a month for covid and my mental health has deteriorated even more post covid). Can you just explain this point ?
If I choose the medical leave option, if it's a 2 month leave, should I include it / reveal it (I don't even know where to do this in the application, and I'm planning to use the optional essay for other things. I just wonder If I have to reveal my medical leave if I'm still employed (and paid, it's not an unpaid leave)
