Pre e-gmat:
Started my GMAT journey by joining JAMBOREE in Feb 2019. They taught verbal only from OG and their methods were very simple but stupid and impossible to ace the GMAT with (Verbal atleast). For example in SC: they had a rule that if a sentence has the word "being" in it, eliminate that sentence ". So wasted my time studying there till june 2020. My RC passage time was as high as 8mins, so i was searching for youtube tutorials on how to reduce this time. That's when i came across e-GMAT's RC seminar. Intuitively our approach to RC is read fast, read question, go to relevant location and answer the question, but e-gmat's technique was spend 4-5 mins on passage and then go do the questions quickly. I applied this and saw a clear reduction in time and increase in accuracy. So i took their free trial and went through the free topics in SC. Whatever they taught just felt right intuitively. I learnt more about sentences in one hour with e-gmat than the last 1 year with JAMBOREE. After much discussion with my friend, we both took up the course.
During e-gmat:
I was asked to take a mock test and got a 650 (Q47,V32). Deepak from e-gmat spoke to me and convinced me that we improve from 650 --> 750 in just under 3 months as he sees a lot of potential.
*Spoiler alert it took me 9 months to just finish the course though i was regular in studying*.
I started off with SC and the course is amazing. I was taught how to read a sentence properly to extract full meaning. The course is well designed, You learn a concept, learn to use apply it and then you are tested immediately. But the problem was it took me 3 months to finish the SC course alone(with 2hrs/day of studying).
Moving on to CR(The section in which i have 90% in my attempt). Here we learn so many important things that is hard to put into words but an example of that is "Characterizing and then evaluating the answer choice" which Payal teaches that helps me eliminate around 2 options in each question. They taught characteristics of Assumptions, Inference etc. All of which i intuitively use and are extremely helpful in getting answer choices. I don't do Prethinking as much as they tell me to but hey i get the job done
.
Thereafter I moved onto Quant. Again the course is wonderful and well designed but again longggg. That being said none of the courses were unnecessary so you can't blame them. I finished only 10% of my Quant course.
1st Attempt: My family was contracted Covid in April and post taht I just gave up on the exam. I didn't feel like it and didnt believe i can ever get a good score because: I was taking 3 mins/question for SC and CR which sucks so what's the point right? However, for some reason I decided the restart, so i revise SC and i write a test and got 20% correct. I was devastated and I was told by my consultant to switch to GRE or EA exams, but i spoke to DJ (who is very famous) in e-gmat. I asked him whether I should give up. He didn't lie to me saying "100% you have potential." He gave me a practical answer. He gave me a 3 day program and i just followed it diligently. Surprise Surprise after 3 days i got a 70% in SC test. I contacted the e-gmat team for rest of the sections and revised them.
I took my first test and got a 620. (V34 and Q42).
2nd Attempt:
I was really annoyed and got my ESR report which showed I messed up quant because I didn't study geometry and algebra yet. I messed up verbal because my SC,RC wasn't good enough. When i showed the report to DJ(Dhananjay) and Archit, he inferred some very important things. We first figured out that my SC and CR suffered because RC took too much time and he concluded that if I took 10 sec more in each SC and CR question then my scores will improve. This led me to realize that my first RC passage was a Humanities passage and was tough and that is where my test was bad.So it was just a case a bad luck. I was given corrective actions for RC Humanities passage and CR and SC. The corrective actions were "Do that part of the course again in which you suck.". I was very annoyed to hear this as it felt like a lazy answer but i did it anyway and realized that with each revision the gaps in your understanding reduces and you get so confident I can't even explain.
I gave my GMAT for the 2nd time and got a 700 (Q48,V38).
In conclusion,
1. e-gmat 's techniques work for sure in solving the questions. It will take time at first but it will get better.
2. If the support team tells you to revise something. Suck it up and do it. Doing boring stuff is how you get good.
3. The support team is very quick in answering mails. Not one bad experience.
4. The time it takes it do the course is a little debatable because they are testimonials of fast completion, but from my experience it takes 9 months. The course is long but not unnecessary.
5. The only thing i had a problem with was hearing that a 730 student got a mentor in their youtube videos but nothing is mentioned clearly about it. How does that work? Why only some students are selected for that and others are not given this?
6. The timing matrix strategy and priming strategy were game changing.

Acing the GMAT is in many ways like winning a Squash game (a sport which I am training for these days) or winning an F1 race. You may have the best racquet and wear the best shoes or drive the fastest car however, a critical portion of the outcome depends on how you perform on that day. On the test day, if you change your approach (which it seems that you did in your first attempt), the outcome could be drastically different.
Having said that, it does not mean that your preparation is lost. That preparation is like sugar sitting in a teacup. The sugar is there.. it just needs to be stirred properly.
Second – data and insights are “gold”. The right methods do provide the right foundation. On top of those methods, data provides that personalization that helps you excel. Students, like you, who suck it up and follow directions diligently, excel. Those who don’t, don’t.
The same holds true for me. Eight days back while playing squash, I lost multiple games at 4 (we play 14-point games). I realized that my return of serve and pick up from the back wall were failing me (data). For the next three days, I watched videos by experts, simulated the 5 games I lost, and just did shadow practice. I practiced each shot at least 500 times. The result – on Thursday, I won three out of six games and reached deuce in the remaining three. I am not done practicing. So yes, utilize data, focus, and suck it up with an attitude to excel if you want to win.
Any successful technique does take time and is slow in the beginning. I was 10X slower while initially practicing returns from the back of the wall. Why, because I had to ensure that my weight distribution was correct, the movement of the racquet was precise, and the glass wall in my house stayed intact 😊. Now, how fast you improve depends on the intensity of application. You can cut the time down drastically if you increase the intensity (think of this as an exponential function).
Thank you for being diligent while completing the course. I noticed that you started at a V32. I need to analyze your attempt to account for various factors. However, students who prepare with intensity complete the SC course in 15-24 days (or between 40-60 hours). I would have to look at why you took longer.

At e-GMAT, we spend about $1.6M a year in R&D, which in turn translates to about 4000 hours per month of effort. At any time, we have about five programs in which we are either building a product or are enhancing a function – all with an aim to enhancing student success. In Jan, the LMP program (which you referenced) was in the R&D phase. Having delivered 400+ successes, it is now part of the standard offering and is now listed on the website.
Similarly, I understand that you interacted with Payal in the context of GMAT RC. This engagement was a part of our ExAACT program (Expert Augmented Ability Correction and Tracking). This program is currently in its concept phase. Payal is only working with about 40 students in Sept as a part of this program. It will be available for general availability once it goes through the process (Concept => Definition => Implementation => Finetuning => Launch).
This is true with any program. Our Quant courses went through extensive validation before we launched. This validation started in June 2020, 13 months before we launched the Quant 2.0 offering completely.
