Today was quite a bad day for me.
I had taken the test 1 and it froze twice, but I never took any notice as I was too busy worrying about the difficult questions. But I had no proof to talk about it so I decided that I would take Screenshots during test 2 so that I have proof in case it freezes again.
This time (test 2), instead of freezing, the software crashed and sent me back to the home page so many times during the verbal section that I lost the flow. However I didn't feel so bad until I saw my score. I look at my verbal results and I see a 30. I was shocked because I got 24 correct and 12 wrong(4RC(3 passages), 2CR and 6SC) as opposed to my test 1(given a month ago, V33) where I got 21 correct and 15 wrong (similar split as T2 verbal but this time with more RC Qs(that too 600-700) wrong than SC's). The funny thing is I got a 'did not attempt ⛔' on Q34 due to the crash even though I had solved that question correctly and completed the test with 40 sec remaining. What should I do here ? (no money to buy test 3 & 4). I am a bit worried that even after a month of equal quant and verbal prep, I decreased my verbal score.
I have the screenshot of the q 34 error message as well as the question review with ⛔ symbol but unable to upload it.
I had attempted the test in incognito with all cache and history cleared.
I have 8th gen Intel i5 8GB RAM 1TB HDD and 2GB VRAM. I don't think my system would be an issue.
Hi ChinmayP,
First off, early v30s is a great foundation to build on after a month's practise. I am not sure what's your prep routine or source, but keep working towards identifying patterns of errors, while spending around 30 minutes per day on a couple of dense passages/articles. Best advice to crank up verbal that worked for me: read slowly, grasp all key qualifiers in the CR stems, meaning in the SC stems, and "why this paragraph?" in RCs. With time and qualitative practise (I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIGH VOLUME OF PRACTISE FOR GMAT) and
error log revisions, you should see an improvement.
Regarding the GMAT Prep bit: I have faced these issues multiple times recently and sort of have given up. GMAC comes back with generic "have you tried this?" response. FYI- I faced the issue with practise test #5 most recently, so fair to say this is not about free vs. not-free. Just don't let it bother you. Try free mocks of reputed platforms like
MGMAT, but only take away your timing strategies and 3-hour sittings of intensive practise from them, not the score.
Spend decent amount of hours between two mocks to see the result of your smart work.
Reset the exam 1 and exam 2 and you should have at least 2 more official mocks to benchmark on.
Finally, the number of Qs you get wrong is not very relevant. The difficulty level and the position of the mistakes are far more important. You can read a lot about all of what I have mentioned above on Gmatclub.
Best of luck!
