Hello,
I gave my GMAT online test today, and scored 580 (Q 48, V 22). This has left me dumbfounded as I feel that my months of practice and hardwork has not paid anything. My test scores have been:
The first 2 were taken around april-june
Practice test 1: 590 (Q 47, V 23)
Practice test 2: 600 (Q 47, V 23)
The last 2 were taken in August
Practice test 3: 720 (Q 50, V 37)
Practice test 4: 700 (Q 51, V 33)
Quant has always been my strength however, I have been working regularly on my verbal score. The huge development in the mock tests scores gave me the confidence of going forward with the test as the round1 deadlines for MiM b-schools is approaching. However, this score of Q48 nd V22 has given me a shock. First, my online GMAT experience was not a good one. I would like to get to know from others if they experienced the same thing. First, the proctor asked me to remove my bluetooth wireless mouse. This was not mentioned in the rules, so I was taken aback because I prefer a mouse to the laptop touchpad. Moreover, while I was selecting the answer choices, the process took a lot of time for me. The selection of answer, the clicking on next and then on yes took approximately 5-6 seconds per answer for me. I am not sure if this happens with all online and offline gmat exams, or if this was a problem of either my internet connection or my system. Also, although the Q48 score is a good one, I am still not sure how I got this because for me, I was able to answer the questions much more accurately than in any of my mock tests. So a 38 as compared to the previous 49 and 50 makes me feel bad. Also, the verbal score has left me devastated. I did encounter some power off problems at home, which might have impacted to my overall performance due to an added stress factor, but I can not blame these issues to a bad 22 score.
Still can not figure out how to improve the verbal score. I do know my speed is not up to the mark. However, I believed I could score around V (31-32) with Q50.

Had a student who mentioned something similar. They gave the Online both times. He was a 6-hour verbal student who went from a V31 to a V40 in about 30 days so there may be some tips you find helpful, too.
As far as the Online goes, it could be something on the student end, too. Some folk, for example, have no issues.

Hi, thankyou so much for your reply. Just wanted to make sure that such things do not happen at in in-center test environment, right? I was even getting prompts where my answer choices were being evaluated after the submission. Such a thing hasn't happened during my 4 official mock tests. I am not sure if this is something only I had to face or if this is universal. Also, the AWA section was also a task. The experience of writing something couldn't have been worse. During mock tests, the letters would come up after 1 sec. But during the actual gmat, they were taking approximately 3-4 seconds. The entire experience has taken my mental peace. Even before I started my GMAT preparation, I got a score better than my actual GMAT. And getting a 580 after a 720 in mock tests has seriously disturbed me. Still not sure if yesterday was a very unlucky day or if I still have to work a lot. I had rested a lot before the test and had been in a pretty good mood unlike any other tests or exams. I had tried to let go of any anxiety or stress. But I believe it still had a way of getting in into my system
