Hi yogeshmit93,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. With a V19, you would have lost significant points in all 3 major Verbal categories (RC, SC and CR). In addition, if you have a pacing issue (meaning that you had to 'rush' through a bunch of questions at the end of the section and/or ran out of time and left questions unanswered), that that could also have hurt your overall performance. Before we discuss any of those potential issues in more detail, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How many hours did you typically study each week?
2) Have you used any other study materials besides the course that you listed? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Hi everyone,
I started preparing for GMAT in April 2023. Since the age constraint, I was serious to crack and aimed for 10th July. As like a subcontinent fella, my Verbal is weak hence aimed to study that first. I used egmat services for study prep.
Today my results were utterly disappointing, and my score on GMAT test is as below:

Q = 48
V = 19
IR = 6
Total = 550
:cry: Where am I going wrong? What does score of 19 suggest? am I totally guessing all the answers? Since scores do not increase more that 30pt score, should I give up on my MBA dream?
Please help

[quote="EMPOWERgmatRichC"]Hi yogeshmit93,

1) How many hours did you typically study each week? 2-3 hrs on weekday and 4-6hrs on weekend
2) Have you used any other study materials besides the course that you listed? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used? - No
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)? - egmat MockX and scored approx. similar scores

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score? 700+
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to? R1 2023, but now R2 2023

- Unfortunately I cancelled the score on spot, as did not wish to keep the history.

What would be ideal verbal strategy? Should start from scratch? I still have egmat prescription for few months

Do not be disheartened. What you have achieved since April is quite visible in your Quant score. I am not a GMAT coach but I can give my 2 cents based on my own journey of preparing for the GMAT verbal.

1. Not every prep course is suitable for everyone. During my preparation, I also purchased a subscription to e gmat, but it didn't align with my preferred style for verbal preparation. Eventually, I curated the best study material from GMATClub and a few mentors. Through rigorous self-study, I managed to achieve a V42 score.

2. It is crucial to identify your weak areas. Is it SC, CR, or RC? Maintain an Excel log of the question prompts you answered incorrectly, and against each type in the specific logic you struggled with. By repeating this process, you will gradually grasp the concepts and improve over time. Go over the questions you got wrong after a few days, again. Repeat.

I would gladly share advice and my own study material for Verbal preparation (pro bono/no charges)
