Hi,

Can someone throw light on how can one score 675 on GMAT focus?

How much you need to score in each of the section?

Your total score (with a max of 805) is derived by combining your results on the 3 sections. 
As such, there no one way to reach 675. 
That said, 675 is in the 96th percentile, which means you'll need to do quite well in all 3 sections.

I took a official GMAT Focus mock. I got 595(72%ile) Here is a look at score:

Quant ( 15 Correct out of 21) >> 71 %ile
Verbal (15 Correct out of 23) >> 51%ile
Data Insights (14 Correct out of 20) >> 73%ile

My target score is 665-675. Can someone help me what will be tentative %ile required in each of the sections to reach my goal?

Also how that converts in number of allowable wrongs in each section will be helpful.

As I mentioned earlier, there's no one way to get a 665/675 score.

Think of it this way: Let's say your final score in some university course is based on the average of 3 exams. What scores do you need to get on each exam to yield an average score of 80%? 
There are many ways to get an average of 80%. 
For example 100% on exam #1, 100% on exam #2, and 40% on exam #3, will yield an average score of 80%, but that's not the only configuration. 
It's also true that 80% on exam #1, 80% on exam #2, and 80% on exam #3, will yield an average score of 80%. 
And there are many more.

Likewise it could be that a 99th percentile quant score, a 99th percentile DI score, and a 70th percentile verbal score will get you a 665/675 score.

That said, you will need solid scores in all 3 sections to reach 665/675.

As for the number of correct responses need to get 665/675, the answer also varies because the GMAT punishes you more (score-wise) for getting an easy/medium question wrong than getting a hard question wrong. So, it may be the case that getting two hard questions wrong decreases your score by the same amount as getting 1 easy question wrong. So, when your section scores are determined, the difficulty level of the questions you get wrong is more important than the number of questions you get wrong.

For now, I suggest you work on increasing your score in all 3 sections with a little extra focus on Verbal since that's your lowest score.

I wish it had worked that way, but I don't think percentiles work as averages. Did you mean raw scores?

I think the raw score of 80 (not percentile but 80 out of 90) can be added to create some kind of a relationship but percentiles are a no-go. My guess is if you get an 80th percentile across the board, the total should be around 90th percentile. That was the case in the last GMAT. V37, Q49, would give 700, which was 88%-90%

Usually the more balanced the sections, the higher the overall score.

P.S. I don't know the overall score algorithm works yet however

Hi. Just played with some numbers and correlations and it looks like the GMAT scoring formula is quite easy actually. I was surprised. It is based on the raw scores such as 78 out of 90 for the 3 sections. All 3 sections have the same weight so you are able to improve your score equally by pursing either your best section or your worst section. Keep in mind, however, that section scores are NOT linear necessarily. I am still figuring out the relationship within the sections themselves (e.g. making 6 wrong in the middle, end or on easy questions) will give you what score. https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-focus-a ... 18176.html So to get 675, you need a total of 250 points of a score. This can be any combination of any scores: E.g. 84, 83, and 83 on any of the sections would give you 675 Similarly, you can get 90 on the Quant, and then 80 on DI, and 80 on Verbal. Not easy per se and this is not correlated to mistakes, this is raw scores on the test.

Thanks  bb  , I gave another mock with only 3 mistakes reduction I improved score by 70.

Was there any bug in mock 1 ? Or its in mock 2?

Hey  RishS94 , 94% in DI for the second mock despite 7 mistakes seems something off with the software/algo.
I do understand the level of difficulty of questions matter, but could not think of a scoring scenario which could fit in here.

Wrote the other official practice exam today and got 665, down from 715

Total - 665 - 94th percentile
QA - 83 - 81st percentile (18/21) 
VA - 84 - 91st percentile (17/23)
DI - 82 - 94th percentile (16/20)

Made some silly mistakes in quant and got punished severely. Verbal was tougher than last time, got 6 wrong compared to 3 the last time. However score was down only by 1 point.
DI - was too casual, got cramped for time and got 3 qns wrong out of last 4.
