1. The problem asks us to find Ramona's and Charlie’s present ages in years. Denote them as R and C, respectively.

2. In 4 years their ages will be R + 4 and C + 4.

3. From the equation we have: R + 4 = 2(C + 4) -> R = 2C + 4.

4. With no more information, we need to go through all variants. One thing to notice is that R is slightly larger than 2C. That means we can cross out C = 2, because it's too small. In addition, C = 20, 24, 28 can also be immediately crossed out since R will be too large.

5.
Case#1: C = 12. Then, \( R = 2*12 + 4 = 28 \), which works.

Case#2: C = 14. Then, \( R = 2*14 + 4 = 32 \), which doesn't work.

6. The answer is R = 28 and C = 12.

bdefeo,

The setup says " In four years" at the beginning, so it should be taken that everything after that statement is in 4 years. I think we can assume/resolve that.
The answers however are in present time.
