To ensure computer security, a firm has rules about access of managerial and nonmanagerial employees to various networked computer drives. In accordance with the rules, some but not all nonmanagerial employees are allowed access to both Drive B and Drive D. Some are required to have such access. Every nonmanagerial employee must have access to at least one of Drive B and Drive D. No nonmanagerial employee is allowed to have access to both Drive B and Drive E. The rules do not restrict the access of managerial employees to any of the drives mentioned.

RULES  :

1)  Non-managerial 
 
 Not every one has access to both B and D 
 Some have access to both B and D 
 No one has access to both B and E 
 All have access to at least one of B and D.

2)  Managerial 
 
 No restrictions, all permitted

Required    (a practice that is required by the rules)
Go through the options. There is only one choice that is a MUST.  If a non-managerial has access to E, then he must have access to D. 
One of B and D is must, and B does not go along with E. So the rule requires that E is coupled with D.

Permitted    ( a practice that is permitted, but NOT required, by the rules)
 
 At least one nonmanagerial employee is currently not allowed access to any of the three drives B, D, and E.  
          It is a requirement that none is allowed access to all three. 
 
 Managerial employees, and only those, are currently allowed access to Drive E.  
           There are no restriction on Drive E apart from Non-managerial not having access to E along with B. So, it is possible only managerial          employees have access to E and no one else.  
 
 The nonmanagerial employees who are currently allowed access to Drive D are also allowed access to Drive E.  
         It could have fitted in permitted but for the line that there are few who have access to both B and D. These cannot be permitted to access E

Hi @chetan2u!  how is this -- At least one nonmanagerial employee is currently not allowed access to any of the three drives B, D, and E -- a requirement? It has been mentioned that All Nonmanagerial folks are part of B or D or (B AND D). So, there cannot be a single person who doesnt have access to ANY of the drivers. So,how can there exist atleast 1 person which has not got access to ANY of the 3 drivers?

You are correct. If you see what I wrote was that the requirement is ‘none has all three’. That is why this option fits in neither requirement nor permission.

Kind of random - For permitted I picked: "The nonmanagerial employees who are currently allowed access to Drive D are also allowed access to Drive E." If the option said: "Some nonmanagerial employees who are currently allowed access to Drive D are also allowed access to Drive E" would it have been ok to pick this under permitted?

My confusion lies in the phrase  "and only those"  because, based on the rules, nonmanagerial employees are not restricted from accessing Drive E. Doesn’t this make the statement incorrect since it implies nonmanagerial employees cannot access Drive E? Could someone explain why the second statement is considered "Permitted"?

Practices is the key. This could be something few follows(may be some rule that made up by a manager for his team in particular 
)that may not be an actual rule or requirement but doesn’t break any rules and requirements.

Pretty tough question.

Also non-managers , some are required to have access to both b and d. 
  not all nonmanagerial employees are allowed access to both Drive B and Drive D.  Some are required to have such access .

Also it says b and e not allowed for non managers.
So those some with b and d are not allowed e.

two things here:

1. Draw a picture to help visualize the restrictions,
2. the second bubble is not merely permitted. it is permitted but not required.

E should already stick out to you since its mentioned only once. so the second option should stick out given its isolated in the passage. There are no restrictions as to which drives the managers can access. So, they are permitted to access E, but they are not required to. however, at least some of the non managerial employees cannot access E due to their requirement to have both B and D. and if you have B, you cant also have E.
