Just solve each of the options.
D will give -15<= s-85<=15
i.e 70<=s<=100 which is given in the question

Why is B not the answer? I seem to be getting the same values of as D when I solve B.

Hi,
Here the first condition meets.
S-15<=85. hence, s<=100

But when you take the negative side i.e. -(S-15)<=85
It changes to S-15>=-85. Therefore, S>=-70 which cannot be possible as per given condition.

Mid point = (70+100)/2=85
Distance = (100-70)/2 = 15
|s-Mid point|<=Distance
|s – 85| ≤ 15

(B) |s – 15| ≤ 85
(C) |s – 85| < 15

Deconstructing the Question

We are given

\(70 \le s \le 100\)

We want to rewrite this interval using absolute value.

Step-by-step

Find the midpoint of the interval

\(\frac{70+100}{2} = 85\)

Find the distance from the midpoint

\(100 - 85 = 15\)

So the interval can be written as

\(|s - 85| \le 15\)

Answer D: |s - 85| ≤ 15
