Hello. I’m a dentist from Mumbai, India and I want to get into healthcare consulting.
My GPA is 3.72/4.00 and GMAT is 670.
I have 3 years of work exp (4 by start of program) in private clinics and as a medical officer in an insurance company
I’m applying to 5 universities in round 1 in September.
I’m sure about LBS, INSEAD and ISB. Which ones do you recommend from HEC, IESE and Cambridge and if any other for my profile?
Thanks

DrDanish - your professional experience can bring interesting angles. Would like to understand your key projects, achievements etc to assess the strength of the overall profile. It'd also be crucial to have a strong narrative covering these, your post-MBA goals, and how/ why an MBA fits in.

The GMAT is a bit on the lower side, particularly for INSEAD and LBS: what was the Q/ V split? any scope for a retake/ improvement?

Check out here for a consolidated list of our insights on the top European/ UK MBA programs, including AdCom interviews, deep-dives, success-stories and more insights.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.

Regards,
Arvind

Hi DrDanish,

Your profile matches well with the healthcare management major at the schools of your choice. You have strong work experience which will help you reflect upon your learning and skills developed over time in your applications. Your GPA and GMAT scores are decent enough to land you and be admitted to one of the schools.

You can schedule a free profile consultation with our MBA experts or connect directly over call with them on +91 7780769732

DrDanish Hi, INSEAD alumna and former MBA interviewer here. Hope I can be realistic in my feedback. Your background as a medical professional is certainly an advantage in the admissions process, but your goals need to have a strong basis. You must clearly explain why you want to transition into healthcare consulting if you previously chose a career in dental. Also, I seem to be missing some background on why you joined an insurance company as a medical officer. What are your motivations?

To show that you are a fit for your target schools, you need to connect the cases/projects you’ve worked on to highlight the area of the healthcare industry that interests you most (after the MBA in healthcare consulting). How would your experience and knowledge of issues in the (dental) industry make you a valuable resource for the MBA program and your future employment (in a business-oriented role)? If you are applying to some of the best B schools in the world, you will have to be very specific with your goals strategy because you come from a niche sector. This narrative will carry significant weight in the admissions process.

Pro-tip: Your application will be stronger if you show how your target B schools fit into your healthcare goals. Present the "uniqueness" of the target programs from a healthcare perspective to set yourself apart from the competition. Talk to the school, alumni, and industry recruiters to get an idea of your career expectations after MBA in the healthcare industry. Use these conversations to articulate your goals . Alumni responses can help you set the right expectations.

My top picks for you would be:
India- ISB, IIM A PGPX (when you become eligible)

EU/UK: IESE, HEC Paris, Oxford, Cambridge
LBS and INSEAD are reach schools. You can speak with me if you want to understand if you should even apply or rather focus your energy on other schools for better offers and scholarships.

If considering The US: DUKE, TUCK for healthcare

Best wishes
Aanchal Sahni (INSEAD MBA alum, former INSEAD MBA admissions interviewer)
