One thing that may help a bit is leveraging your error-log to identify where you may make repeated careless errors. Perhaps there are situations you forget a certain prime number, for example. For time management, using question/time markers may help as well.

How to get better on the GMAT. Note down your repeated careless errors.

Hey Team,

I need your help with an issue I’ve noticed while analyzing my recent GMAT practice tests. I'm consistently getting some questions wrong because of rushing during the exam. However, when I review those same questions after the exam, I'm able to answer them correctly.

During the test, I feel pressured to rush to avoid running out of time, but this leads to mistakes. How can I avoid this problem and ensure I answer questions correctly? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi vic231,

As bb mentioned, this is normal. Try to keep doing practice questions under time pressure. You could also go through a discussion related to this issue here.

Hi is this specific to quant or Verbal or DI?

For quant you want to slow down, read the question two times, check your calculation so have a bit of a process. Also how do you write on the laminated paper. How organized is your work? Do you split the page into four blocks so you can organize your work or you scribble? These questions help improve accuracy. Also, know that if you rush then you will make a mistake. Some errors you will have because you misunderstood the question or it was hard. Some errors would be silly mistakes you do not want a lot of these.

For CR, if you are stuck between two close options choose the one that is more specific or is more clear and ties to the argument rather than the one that is vague or unclear on scope, good luck!

Ok what is your accuracy, are you tracking it in an error log? What types of questions are you getting wrong? I think these are all questions you want to ask to understand what is driving the inaccuracy or error?

Overall, I would say it is good that you have identified that you have this issue. Now you have to figure out how to solve it.

Can you think of a way that would help you not rush? Maybe it’s some kind of confidence building or maybe it’s pausing at the start of every question or just constantly practicing with the clock so you get used to the pressure. Some people do meditation. There are many ways you can approach it. It is possible to Overcome it but you have to try to find what works for you . No one can really tell you what will work. You have to commit and keep trying.
