I’m seeing a lot of negativity and fear mongering towards international students, saying that they’re going to struggle to get jobs. A lot of these people are domestic happy about the current situation, but they don’t have the skills themselves. Many leading club leaders in the United States are international students. This is just from domestic students trying to feel better about their own anxieties towards recruiting - don’t listen to it.

Aren’t you going to Cornell?
They reached out to me and gave me a waiver. Considering it as an option.

But internationals are struggling indeed, while the base salary for domestic students has jumped significantly, upto 200k in Ross for instance. I left my Ross seat despite the 40k scholarship for the same reason.

I think it’s a time to be cautious rather than skeptic.

Depends where you’re from. Club leaders I spoke to said they struggled due to cultural gaps. I have recruited for jobs in the US as a Canadian, and the process has been fine. They actually wanted to push for me and hire me.

i've been offering mock interviews to applicants for free and the biggest concern i have re: international applicants is communication/soft skills. it's not about accent, it's about keeping stories concise and digestible, being able to pass the "airport test" by bonding over shared interests, etc.

Yeah, that’s a cultural gap.

It’s not their fault they haven’t lived their entire life in North America

The Canadiens I know who go down there crush it. Every single, one of them landed a top job, whether in banking consulting or a startup.

I wouldn’t really consider Canadians true international students, they don’t even require an F1 Visa to go to school they just need to sign in I 20 form. We can also use TN visa instead of H1B as an alternative which is more streamlined. We also speak English natively and we’re not too different compared to Americans.

I also found Americans also easier to talk to they’re much more authentic and personable.

I believe the point is not that, if you wanna go US or anywhere in the world you must adapt to be succesful... is basic theory of evolution...

I think that’s what the other guy saying right now.

I spoke to some buddies who were club leaders, and I asked them point-blank about the h1B and he said that it was all smoke mirrors, and all the bigger companies moved on like usual. Same with consulting.

The visas are a little bit different by country. Your country may have an alternative visa for example Australians have it even easier than Canadians same with Chileans.
