A museum issued a certain number of annual passes. 15% of the passes were never activated. Of the activated passes, 40% were Family passes and 60% were Individual passes. Among the activated passes, 21/34 of the Family passes and 1/3 of the Individual passes were used fewer than 6 times during the month.

Of all passes issued, A percent are Family passes that were used fewer than 6 times during the month, and B percent are Individual passes that were used fewer than 6 times during the month.

Select for A and for B the options that complete the statement so that it is most accurate based on the information provided. Make only two selections, one in each column.

total passes be T
15% were never activated
85% were activated
40% are family passes & 21/34 Family passes and 1/3 are individual passes which is 60%

value of A will be
85/100 * 40/100 * 21/34

A= 21%

value of B will be
85/100 * 1/3 * 60/100
B = 17%

21% ; 17% is correct option

Let total passes are 100x so activated passes are 85x & not activated are 15x. Of activated passes 40% or 0.4*85x = 34x are family passes & 51x are individual passes.
21/34 of activated family passes i.e. 21/34 * 34x = 21x used fewer than 6 times in a month. similarily 1/3 of individual passes i.e. 1/3*51x = 17x individual passes used fewer than 6 times during the month.

so A = 21 & B = 17.

Select for A and for B the options that complete the statement so that it is most accurate based on the information provided. Make only two selections, one in each column.
Let’s us assume the number of annual passes to be 10200.

Easier method:

85% = 17/20

For family pass = 40%*(85%*Total) = (2/5)*(17/20)*T

Less than 6month = (21/34)*(2/5)*(17/20)*T = (21/100)*T

For Individual pass = 60%*(85% of total) = (3/5)*(17/20)*T

Less than 6 months = (1/3)*(3/5)*(17/20)*T = (17/100)*T

Fraction out of total = ?

Less than 6 month value is divided by T.

(21/100) = 21%

(17/100) = 17%

Traditional method:

15% of the annual passes are not activated.

85% of the annual passes are activated

= (85/100)* 10200

= 8670

Out of the 8670 activated passes.

Family passes = 40%*( 8670) = 3468

Individual passes = 60%(8670) = 8670-3468 = 5202.

Lesser than 6 month passes :

Family passes = (21/34)*3468 = 2142

Individual passes = (1/3)*5202 = 1734

Hence, percentage of less than 6 month passes out of the total.

2142/10200 =21%

1734/10200 = 17%

A =21% and B=17%

15% were never activated -> 85% activated
Of activated: 40% Family, 60% individual

Family & <6 uses: 0.85 x 0.40 x 21/34 = 0.21 = 21%
Individual & < 6 uses: 0.85 x 0.60 x 1/3 = 0.17 = 17%

Let's assume 100 passes for this question. This means 85 were activated and 15 were not activated.

Total # of Family Passes - 40% of 85: \(\frac{40}{100}*85=34\)

Total # of Individual Passes - \(85-34=51\)

\(\frac{21}{34}\) of the family passes were used less than 6 times. We already arrived at a denominator of 34 from the calculation above, and since we have a 1:1 ratio between percentage and people (from when we assumed 100 passes), that means 21% of family passes were used less than 6 times, which is our Column 1 answer.

1/3 of individual passes is \(\frac{51}{3}=17\). Thus our column 2 answer is 17%.

assume the total passes issued were 100.

15% Never activated so = 100-15 = 85.

out of 85 passes activated..40% were family passes = 34. here itself you can calculate how many family passes were used fewer than 6times during a month = 21/34 x 34 = 21

remaining (85-34) passes - 51 passes were individual. Out of which 1/3 x 51 passes were used fewer than 6times = 17.

You can mark your answers as

A as 21 and B as 17.

Assume a total of 100%
If 15% are activated then 85% are unactivated
Family equals 40% of the 85% which equals 34%
Individuals is the remaining from 85%-34%= 51%
Family passes less than six months 21/34x34= 21%
Individuals passes less than six months= 1/3x51= 17
Hence A= 21 and B=17
