x must be true - M3 restricted, rule 4 forces M1 into restriction
since M1 is secure, it occupies both secure and restricted
rule 3 states M4 cannot be anywhere M1 is
M4 is blocked from secure and restricted forcing it into public

y cannot be true- M2 and M4 in public
rule 2 forces M3 into public as well
3M in public, violates the max limit of 2M per zone

A security architect is implementing four new policies—Measure 1, Measure 2, Measure 3, and Measure 4—across three defined network zones: Secure (S), Restricted (R), and Public (P). Each policy will be applied to at least one zone. Further, each zone must have at least one policy applied, and no more than two policies applied.

● Measure 1 must be applied to the Secure zone.
● If Measure 2 is applied to the Public zone, then Measure 3 must also be applied to the Public zone.

According to the criteria, if Measure 3 is applied to restricted zone, measure 1 must be applied to restricted zone, that means no other come to the restricted zone and since Measure 1 is already applied to security zone, it has to apply to public zone.

y (cannot be true)
If measure 2 is applied to public zone, measure 3 must be applied to public zone. If we include measure 4, it violates the condition by adding 3 policies in a zone.

Answer:
x = statement 3
y = statement 1

Answer: If Measure 3 is applied to R, measure 4 must be applied to P = MUST BE TRUE
-> Measure 4 can't be in any zone that has measure 1, and if measure 3 is in zone R then so must measure 1, meaning only zone P is left for measure 4
Measures 2 and 4 must be applied to zone P = CANNOT BE TRUE
-> No zone can have more than 2 measures, but the prompt says that if measure 2 is applied to zone P then so must measure 3.

Restricted= M1,M3 or M4
Public= M2,M3 or M4

1. Measure 2 and Measure 4 are both applied to the Public Zone. Max 2 measured can be applied to a zone. If Public Zone has Measure 2 then it must have measure 3. Y(cannot be true)

2. If Measure 2 is applied to the Restricted Zone, Measure 4 will be applied to the Public Zone. Possible
3. If Measure 3 is applied to the Restricted zone, Measure 4 must be applied to the Public Zone.
If Measure 3 is applied to restricted zone, then it must also have measure 1 and hence measure 4 can only be applied to public zone. Secure zone can't have measure 4 because it have measure 1. It must be definitely true. X(Must be True)

Given that M1 is applied to S zone
Rule 1: If M2 in P, M3 in P
Rule 2: M4 and M1 not in same zone
Rule 3: If M3 in R then M1 in R

Analysing choices
By Rule 1,
If M2 is in P, M3 is also in P according to Rule1.
If M3 is placed in R, then M1 also needs to be placed in R. But M1 is in S.
If M3 is placed in S, no policy will be applied to zone R.
This cannot be true. So the statement "M2 and M4 are both applied to the public zone" cannot be true.

Checking the choices, If M3 is applied to R, then M4 must be applied to P
M3 in R implies M1 in R (rule3). Now M1 applies to R and S. M4 can go to P only as per rule 2.
This is true amd must be.

Checking other choices,
If M2 in R, then M4 in P ; counterexample M1 in S, M2 M4 in R, M3 in P is valid
M4 is applied to R = M4 can be applied to P and R.
If M1 in R, then M3 in R; counterexample M1 M3 in S, M1 M2 in R, M4 in P is valid

So answer is

A) Y, Cannot be True. Because if M2 applied to P, So M3 will also go to P. And Maximum Policies can be 2 in a Zone. So M4 cannot be applied to P.

LETS SAY MEASURE AS M
SECURE RESTRICTED PUBLIC
M1(ALWAYS)
EITHER( M4) OR (M4)
IF (M3) THEN (M1) ALSO IF (M2) THEN (M3) ALSO


NOW CHECK EACH STATEMENT ONE BY ONE
1) IF M2 GOES TO PUBLIC THEN COMPULSORILTY M3 COMES ALONG. CONDITION OF NOT MORE THAN TWO APPLICABLE SO NOT POSSIBLE. (IT DEFINETELY CAN'T BE TRUE)
2) IF M2 APPLIED TO THE RESTRICTED ZONE, M4 CAN ALSO BE APPLIEED HERE, NOT NECCESSARILY IT GOES TO PUBLIC ZONE.
3) IF M3 TO RESTRICTED ZONE THEN M1 COMES ALONG COMPULSORILY, CONDITIONES OF TWO ALSO FULFILLED. M4 CAN ONLY BE APPLIED TO OTHER THAN SECURE ZONE AS PER FACTUAL STATEMENTS GIVEN IN THE ARGUMENT. AND RESTRICTED ZONE IS FILLED WITH 2 MEASURES. SO ONLY PLACE M4 CAN GO IS PUBLIC ZONE. (MUST BE TRUE)

Listing out the constraints.

Each zone needs to have 1 measure and at most 2 measures
Each measure needs to be assigned to at least 1 zone
Secure is assigned Measure 1
Restricted, if 3 is assigned 1 is also
Public, is 2 is assigned, 3 is also

statement 1 > Public when measure 2 is applied, 3 will also apply. So Measure 4 cannot be here. => False
Statement 2 > Restricted has measure 2, ( it can have 1 or 4 as additional measure). Possible combinations the Secure - 1 +2/3, Restricted - 2 +1/4, public - (3,1), (3,4) etc. 4 is not mandatory for Public =>Could be true
Statement 3 > Restricted has measure 3 => by constraint it also has 1. S has measure 1. for each measure to be applied at least once public needs to have measure 4 => Must be True
Statement 4 > Secure has measure 1, there is no mandatory requirement for Restricted to have measure 4 =>Could be true

cannot be true:
since measure 2 is applied to public zone, then condition says measure 3 must be applied to it. since any zone cannot have more than two policies, measure 4 cannot be applied to public zone along with measure 2. (B)

must be true :
if measure 3 is applied to restricted zone, then measure 1 must be applied to it. we know measure 1 must be applied to secure zone, and measure 4 cannot be applied to any zone with measure 1. hence, measure 4 cannot be applied to secure zone and restricted zone. since each policy must be applied to at least one zone, measure 4 must be applied to public zone. (C)

We are told that each policy has to be applied to atleast one zone and each zone must have atleast one policy applied. Max two policies can be there for any one measure.

As per contraints mentioned.

1 must be applied to secure zone and 4 cannot be applied to any zone in which 1 is there. Hence 4 cannot be applied to secure zone.

If 3 is applied to restricted zone then 1 is ALSO applied to restricted zone. So 4 cannot be applied here since two of the zones are already covered. Hence 4 has to be applied to Pub zone

Hence first part answer is C i.e Must be true : If M3 is applied to restricted zone then 4 is applied to Pub zone.

2nd Part:

2nd bullet says if 2 is appplied to public zone then 3 MUST also be applied.

So if maximum 2 can be there for any one measure then if 2 is applied to pub zone then 3 will also be there for the pub zone. Hence 4 cannot be there.

Hence 2nd part: A i.e cannot be true is M2 and M4 are applied to pub zone.

The correct answers are:
X must be true: If measure 3 is applied to the restricted zone, measure 4 must be applied to the public zone.

Y cannot be true: Measure 2 and Measure 4 are both applied to the public zone.

Lets look at the rules given in the question
1. Every zone: S,R,P must have either 1 or 2 measures.
2. Measure 1 is in S.
3. 1 and 4 cannot be in the same zone
4. If 2 is applied to P, 3 must also apply to P
5. If 3 is in R, 1 must also be in R
This means that 1 and 3 are in R and no zone can take more than 2 measures.
As, 1 is in R- 4 cannot be in R.
Now because 1 is in R and S, 4 can only be assigned to P.

To check the answers now,
1. If Measure 2 and 4 are applied to P- we cannot apply any more measures to this zone, but from the question we can say that if 2 is applied to P, 3 must apply to P as well. Hence, this statement cannot be true.

2. If 2 is applied to R, 4 will be applied to P.
Here, 4 can be applied to R and P both but not S, from the rules.

3. Here, if 3 is applied to R, then must be applied to 1, Now R has 2 measures, thus no more measures can be applied.
1 is also applied to S, so 4 cannot be in S as well, the only option left for 4 is P. Hence this statement must be true.

If M2 is applied to Public, it means that M3 will also be applied to public. On top of that if M4 is applied to public then one zone is left empty which can not be the case.
M2 and M4 both are applied to public - Can NOT be true. (Y)

If M3 is applied to restricted zone, and M1 must be applied to secure AND restricted zone. Then M4 MUST be applied to public zone. Must be true (X)
