hey all, i was to take the GMAT tomo (29th) but have resched it for 8th Jan now because -
a -scored a 690 on both the GMAT Prep #1; and free mGmat. quant 47/48 and verbal 37/38. i started preparations only towards the end of nov and havent been able to put in a lot of practice.
b - i need to get a min of 720 to get a look-in from my target schools.
my main weaknesses -
quant - still a lot of silly mistakes/ overlooking a small detail. timing in the tests is also an issue. always have to run through the last 4/5 question.
verbal - RCs are falling into place. but tough CRs are the bottleneck. when i gave my diagnostics, i easily breezed through CR, but now the tough ones are an issue.
In SC also i am getting about 50% of my tough ones wrong.
so basically, going back to the basics on both CR and SC.
my study plan for the next 10 days, is
verbal - OG 11 and 10. and 1000 sc and cr. (after revising the mgmat sc). RC from OG 11 only.
quant -
OG 11 again. have also got the mGMAT challenge problems.
testing -
one paper a day from the 1st (just bought the mGmat tests). with a gmat prep on 7th.

Hi devilsown, one quick suggestion - it sounds like you are making mistakes of stamina, not mistakes of reasoning. One solution for this is to use a book like Kaplan GMAT 800, or maybe some of the challenges on this site, and study only hard problems for a week. Work on maintaining your focus (avoiding coffee often helps with this - the same is true for test day).

I second rjacobs recommendation on quant. MGMAT math is quite hard, and not particularly representative of what you'll see on the actual test. GMAT quant is designed to test you on more subtle concepts, as opposed to overtly long and difficult problems seen in MGMAT quant. I would recommend taking the challenges on this site if you can. One everday leading to the exam will be a major confidence booster. Don't forget to dedicate a fair share of time revising mistakes.
For verbal, I thought MGMAT does a pretty good job with verbal in their CATs. But what I truly find helpful are their well-documented solutions - definitely go over them in detail. For SC, go over the MGMAT SC guide, and solve their 25 questions in the SC bank (read explanations for any you get wrong) For CR, gain some clarity on what is being asked (eg. flaw in reasoning vs. coming up with a conclusion), so you know what to look for. Then read each statement very critically (look for words like "many", "some", "none" etc, as they greatly modify the scope). And ofcourse, practice, practice, practice -- the last week should be mostly for that with the last day for revising mistakes. Good luck, let us know how it goes!
