Did anyone have their interviewer tell them that they should sit in on a class?

not during the interview, but he brought it up (in a nice way) as he was walking me out of the interview...

Me too - part of me was hoping I should take that as a good sign but it's probably just one of those things they tell everyone. I guess we'll find out in a few days anyway. Did you interview in NYC by any chance?

Attending a class seems to come up in many interviews. For me it came up at the beginning of the interview; I attended a class that morning. This ended up becoming a decent portion of my interview. I agree though... you should attend a class one way or another. The experience is quite a bit different than other schools. You may or may not like it.

Depends on the location... I interviewed in Asia with Dee and she did not bring it up. To be bluntly honest, I couldn't care if I like the case method or not... Its HBS, I'll "tolerate" it if I have to.

Sounds like an unfounded generalization with the "depends on location" (regardless of the interviewer; note to HBSguru xmas shopping did not take place in NYC!?!?=), but whether or not your "care" about it down deep down is irrelevant. IMHP, what matters is the message you convey in your essays/interview. You be the judge if you want.

Fair enough, let me rephrase it to "I think it depends on the interviewer and the context." I interviewed with Dee and she did not mention it. The reason I think she did not was because I am in Asia and it would seem rather unreasonable to make this request to all candidates she interviewed with. I would venture to guess that they did not mention visiting HBS any where near as much in any of their international interviews as they did for US based interviews...

In regards to your comment regarding my opinion, I was just responding to your original comment of " I agree though... you should attend a class one way or another. The experience is quite a bit different than other schools. You may or may not like it." I think sweeping comments like this have to be taken with a grain of salt as it depends on the candidate and situation. Some just simply don't care and can tailor their essays and interviews just fine (same as your final point)

Either way, few more days... Still find it really creepy how quiet Dee's blog is...

Just trying to prevent generalizations my friend, nothing against you.

As for the HBS teaching method, yes it's much different on a grand scale, what is so sweeping? I go to other schools and they're lecturing, students are semi-engaged, and so on...

Yeah - very nice - he made it more of a conversation than an interview. I walked away with mixed feelings; I thought it had gone well but didn't know what I had really added to "selling" myself other than showing I can hold a basic conversation

Quick random question, I've been looking for HBS sample letters of recommendation online but haven't found anything good yet... anyone know where I could find one? I want to give one of my recommenders an example, as I'm worried about his ability to write the recommendation persuasively. He's the perfect candidate otherwise though (in terms of knowing me well, having plenty of examples to write about, etc). I think he would appreciate an example and any other guidance so that it will be easier for him to write it.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

To piggyback on my previous question.. has anyone purchased accepted.com's e-book "MBA letters of recommendation that rock"? Seems like it would have the stuff I need to give my recommender, but I don't want to waste $20 on fluff.

Applying to HBS doesn't mean that you should waste your money

I bought it and give it to one of my recommenders. It contains 2 samples and general advice on how to write good recommendations. My recommender, who had never written MBA recommendation before, found it really useful. Personally, I think it's worth the money.
