Here is my reasoning on the online whiteboard:

27/12=9/4
60/25=2.4
bits transferred: x/2.4 = 5x/12
5x/12 * 9/4 = 5x/(3*4) * (3*3)/4 = 15x/16

Solution A 15/16

Transmitting data at the same constant rate, 12 identical cables can transmit x bits of digital information per minute. How many bits of information can be transmitted by 27 such cables in 25 seconds?

A. 15x/16
B. 16x/15
C. 45x/4
D. 225x/16
E. 225x/4

27 identical cables will transmit more bits and in 27 seconds it will transmit lesser number of bits than what it can transmit in 60 seconds.

therefore, bits transmitted = x*(27/12)*(26/60) = 15x/16

Answer A.

A. 15x/16
B. 16x/15
C. 45x/4
D. 225x/16
E. 225x/4

Solution:

The rate of 12 cables is x, so, we can create the proportion to determine the rate of 27 cables per minute:

12/x = 27/n

12n = 27x

n = 27x/12 = 9x/4

The rate of 27 cables per minute is 9x/4. We must determine the rate in 25 seconds, which is 25/60 minute. Thus, the 27 cables can transmit 9x/4 * 25/60 = 9x/4 * 5/12 = 45x/48 = 15x/16 of data.

Rate of transfer of bits per 1 wire in 1 second

= \(\frac{X}{12*60}\)

now, transfer of bits in 27 cables in 25 seconds

=\(\frac{X}{12*60}\)*27*25

=\(\frac{15X}{16}\)

Ans A

12 identical cables can transmit x bits of digital information per minute.

12 identical cables can transmit x bits of digital information per 60 seconds.

1 cable can transmit x/12*60 bits of digital information per second.

27 cable can transmit 27x/12*60 bits of digital information per second.

27 cable can transmit 27x*25/12*60 = 15x/16 bits of digital information in 25 Seconds, Answer will be (A)
