Hi Algebra2prob,
Performance-wise, a Q44 and a Q42 are remarkably similar Scores (and while this will be an over-simplification of how the GMAT 'works', the difference between those 2 results might be as small as one additional wrong answer). If you really finished the Quant section 8 minutes EARLY, then you were 'rushing' through the section; if you slow down a bit, so that you can do more work on your pad and put in the extra effort to PROVE what the correct answer is (especially in DS questions, which often test the thoroughness of your thinking), then you could potentially score a lot higher in that section.
Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
Studies:
1) On what dates did you take your 2 Official GMATs and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
2) How long have you studied in total? How many hours do you typically study each week?
3) What study materials have you used so far?
4) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
Goals:
5) What is your overall goal score?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
