Hi Fingerscrossed123,

From what you describe, it's not clear if you actually need a tutor or not (since most of the 'math' that appears on the GMAT is not 'high level' material). For free math practice and help, I recommend that you set up an account at Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org). The site is completely free and makes the learning a bit more fun and 'game-like' (as opposed to the dry academic approach taken by most books). While the site is vast, you should limit your studies to basic Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry. After spending a little time re-building those skills, you can start your GMAT studies.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied for the GMAT? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi Empower

Thank you for the advice, my answer is on the Quant study only. I am ok for verbal side. I will sign up to Khan Academy today, appreciate the tip! Also focusing on Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry is a big relief for me, I was going over everything

I started studying 3 weeks ago, I plan on taking my first ever exam the middle/end of September to get a benchmark but still want to give it my all.
1. I am studying 2 hours a day, 5 days a week on Quant
2. I am using, online resources, basically Googling "gmat quant guide", "essential quant information" etc... and going through these tutorials to reignite my high school maths. Doing some online practice questions, I am using a 2015 prep book but bought the 2021 and waiting for it and also going over gmatclub info. Basically what I will do is pick a topic EG: algebra and do practice questions, if I can get it I will go through the answer and learn it to apply to a similar question in the future. Now I am trying to learn all the triangle/square stuff and formulas
3. never done

Goals
1. 700 (The MBA I am applying for needs minimum 600)
2. Next month (first time)
3. I am applying currently to Amsterdam University MBA, I can do all the application besides the GMAT score but I would like to have it done sooner rather than later. That is the only school I am applying for

TY

Hi Fingerscrossed123,

Many GMATers are unhappy with their initial practice scores, but you really shouldn't be. That result would just be a measure of your skills right now - and we need to know your skills, strengths and weaknesses so that we can put together the proper study plan for you. If you really want to take the GMAT sometime next month, then we really need to define your current 'ability level', so I suggest that you take that 1st CAT sometime soon ( you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com - and they come with some additional practice materials). A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have that Score, you should report back here and we can discuss the results and come up with a study plan.

Hi Rich

Sounds like a plan, should I do it sooner rather than later, as in just do it soon to see where I am initially at?

Hi Fingerscrossed123,

Yes - you should plan to take it sometime soon. If you come across Quant questions that involve math that you simply cannot remember (or figure out) how to work through, then that's fine - that information would still provide important data for comparison purposes (especially if you know some aspects of certain content areas but you get 'hung up' on a particular detail of the work).
