This is my first time posting and after reading the some of the experiences of good, bad and oh my god, I hoping to get some motivational/inspirational advice or just plain advice for studying and stategy. Anything would be most appreciated.
My story goes like this: I took the GMAT in 2002 and scored a 530 after a Princeton Review Course, six months of prep and finishing virtually every book I could find at that time. I was scoring in the mid 500s on the Kaplan tests and the low to mid 600s on the powerprep. Basically I psyched myself out during the test and I was so dejected after that I didn't take it again...until now.
I've been studying for over a month and have taken three CAT tests, well two since one of the Kaplan tests was not computer adaptive. I've scored 540 on the Powerprep and 510 on the Kaplan. I've gone through almost all of the OG (11 edition) and will be working on the OG (10th). My strategy right now is to practice, practice, practice and also understand why I am missing questions. I am aiming for a score above 600, but really want to have to confidence to walk in there and own that exam, which I want to take in October-- on Friday the 13th no less.
On a different note, why is it that the powerprep tests do not give the explainations? Am I missing something?
I realize that perhaps I should have started studying earlier than this and was concerned that after six months of studying last time netted poor results, perhaps mass cramming would yield better. Also, standarized tests are not my forte. I am a non-traditional applicant with one year in financial services and two plus in the Peace Corps as a small enterprise developer, and one and counting teaching English in Japan (currently in Tokyo). Therefore, I am hoping this experience in addition to my GPA--3.4 from a good university, recs and essays to counter balance my score. Is this possible?
Again, any advice on the above would be most appreciated . Thank you so much.
