E. 1200
Forget the algebra. Let's just PITA (Plug In The Answers).
I usually like testing B and D. Let's start with B.
Full Cylinder is 800. Full Cone is 300. After removing 200 from each, Cylinder has 600 and Cone has 100. That's 5x, not 2x. Wrong.
Okay, let's try D.
Full Cylinder is 1100. Full Cone is 600. After removing 200 from each, Cylinder has 900 and Cone has 400. That's 2.25x, not 2x. Wrong.
B was very wrong. D got us closer, but not all the way to the right answer. Must be E.
Answer choice E.
